We carry Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian Stone and Slate fireplaces. Slate was typical of late Victorian and Edwardian. The slate itself was often marbelised, simulating the Italian marble commonly used in Georgian Marble fireplaces. Black limestone was also commonly used, as was Portland Stone, common in bedrooms of many large houses, and were often painted.

These stone or slate fireplace surrounds are fitted with a grate, or insert, depending on style. We carry a range of boxed, arched, or tiled insert to select from to suit the period and style of the surround.

These are usually fitted with a slate hearth. These can be fitted flush to most floors, as was traditional in that period.
