Victorian Marble - Cleaned, Polished and Reinstalled
Restoring Victorian Statuary Marble
The Greek Key detail on the frieze is a typical feature found on earlier Georgian design. This feature places this antique chimneypiece circa 1830/40.
Before Restoration
Before restoration this South Dublin chimneypiece was missing its original cast iron interior, at some stage the original hearth stone had been reduced in size. Generally in good repair, the marble had small discolorations, and light stains around the base of the marble jambs. The lack of suitable insert meant the hearth was not well suited for use.
After Restoration
The antique marble surround was carefully cleaned, polished, and buffed to a gentle lustre. A suitable original cast iron insert and grate was chosen. The hearth stone was replaced with honed Slate in keeping with the marble surround.
